Active Directory (AD) Agent Discovery
Product: NEXTMEGABYTE (Greenitco ITAM) · Module: IT Asset Management (ITAM) · Audience: Administrator
If your organization uses Microsoft Active Directory (AD), install the AD agent on one machine in the domain. All computers connected to the domain are discovered automatically, without installing an agent on each device.
The machine running the AD agent acts as a central collector. It identifies devices in the domain, such as computers, servers and other endpoints, and collects details including IP address, MAC address, device type and system configuration.
Install and configure the AD agent
- In the portal, open Network Inventory → Agent Download and download the AD agent.
- Install the agent on any machine that is joined to the domain.
- On that machine, open Services (
services.msc) and find the ITM agent service. - Stop the service.
- Right-click the service, select Properties → Log On, and set it to run as a domain administrator service account.
- Start the service again. The agent starts fetching data automatically.
Data typically appears in the portal 3 to 4 minutes after the agent has processed it locally.
